History of Xcaret Mexico Hotels, Resorts and Parks- A comprehensive History of Xcaret Mexico and Everything It Has to Offer
The most interesting part about Xcaret Mexico perhaps is the history. The founding company, now known as Grupo Xcaret was first originated by Miguel Quintana Pali, who purchased 5 hectares of land in the Riviera Maya coastline in 1987 in order to develop for his personal residence.
After beginning to develop and unearthing the land, he realized that he had struck a goldmine. While clearing the land with tractors, he discovered unique and in-depth a large network of underground cenotes, and natural rivers that eventually led to the Riviera coastline. He also discovered that the land was indeed sacred, with dozens of ancient Mayan ruins near the cenotes which were remnants of the Mayan pyramids. One could only imagine what the land was once used for by the Ancient Mayans in their daily life, worship and sacred rituals on the land.
The Birth of “Eco-Friendly” Water Parks – Grupo Xcaret History
Miguel Quintana Pali then decided to use the land to create an eco-friendly waterpark called Xcaret Mexico in 1990. Several years later, Grupo Xcaret founded Hoteles Xcaret – which are now known as Hoteles Xcaret Mexico, Hoteles Xcaret Arte and the most esteemed Resort next door La Playa De La Casa.
Today, the Xcaret Parks are known for their eco-friendly waterparks, adventure slides, zip-lining and of course their Hoteles Xcaret brand. It is termed eco-friendly because the owners have done an amazing job preserving the authenticity and natural wildlife and many of the structures in the area.
Xcaret Mexico History – A True Mayan Jungle Tropical Paradise
In essence, Xcaret Mexico is built around the jungle, not the other way around. Whereas most resort chains tear down and clear the land and remove trees to build the needed structures, Xcaret Mexico was careful to preserve the integrity of the natural Mayan jungle and built many of the attractions around and within the jungle rather than tearing it down. This is what brings visitors to the parks, because it gives you the feel of the actual heart of the Mayan jungle, rather than a sterile “resort-like” man made atmosphere.
The remnants of the ancient pyramids still exist today at many of the Xcaret Parks and can be seen as part of the adventure waterslides and cenotes on the walking paths. It is truly a combination of history plus adventure and fun in the middle of the Mayan jungle which makes the place so unique.
